Author Biography

Francisco Coloane was a Chilean writer and explorer who is best known for his work about the Antarctic. He was born in 1910 in Quemchi, Chiloe Island, Chile. Coloane began his career as a journalist, but he soon turned to writing fiction. His first novel, The Last Sealers, was published in 1942 and was a critical and commercial success. Coloane went on to write more than 20 novels, as well as many short stories and essays. He died in 2002.
